Christmas distraction
I feel sorry for Martha, the “busy and distracted” one who got the hard word from Jesus. I need that hard word, too.
God was sitting in Martha’s living room, and she was worried and upset about many things! His presence was a pressure instead of a pleasure. Jesus was in her home, but Martha was bothered not blessed. That’s what distraction does. It makes us oblivious to the presence of God and leads us into a realm of unnecessary turmoil.
This can especially be true at the Christmas season…
How many times have you heard someone say, ‘I’m so glad Christmas is over’? Distraction can turn something wonderful into a drudgery…
Matthew 1:18-23
The key word of Christmas is Emmanuel — God with us! Will the distractions of the season keep us from sitting down with a cup of hot spiced cider and enjoying the God who is with us?
